Transformations: Artist-Researcher Collaborations

Promotional video and live-event capture

Client: University of Warwick and the Warwick Institute of Engagement
Project:Transformations: Artist-Researcher Collaborations

In collaboration with the University of Warwick and the Warwick Institute of Engagement, we were commissioned to film and produce a promotional video of their ‘Transformations: Artist-Researcher Collaborations’ event at The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum in Coventry. The Transformations project aimed to bring together the research and cultural sectors, igniting innovation, sparking new approaches and leading to the development of new ideas.

Through a series of ‘In Conversation’ discussions, the live event helped the audience members explore the various transformative impacts of artist-researcher collaborative projects from within and beyond the University of Warwick. The promotional video aimed to give an insight into what audience members, collaborators and organisers took away from the event whilst also showcasing the atmosphere and buzz around the day. We interviewed a variety of people who all had a unique insight into their involvement with Transformations and shed light on what Transformations means to them. The video hopes to inspire others to find out more about the project and get involved in future events and collaborations.

On the day of filming, there were a total of five crew members, split into two crews. The first crew consisted of a director conducting the interviews with a camera operator, with the second team consisting of a camera operator, sound recordist and data technician, who handled the recording of each talk. The first crew had to work alongside the live event crew to ensure they had enough time to interview all of the relevant people and capture enough b-roll for the video to flow seamlessly.

The turnaround time for all edits was just one week, in which we started out by sending a narrative pass of the promo video interviews to the client. From here they were able to select the key soundbites they wanted to include within the film. This made the process a lot easier by gathering regular feedback from the client to ensure they would be fully happy with the finished product. The final stage involved the editing of the b-roll, music and graphics titles, which was then finalised with a colour grade to polish up an engaging promo film that showcases everything the event had to offer.
